How to view and restore your website version history
The Website Builder automatically saves your work as you edit. It also includes version history, giving the freedom to experiment with new layouts and designs, knowing you can always roll back to a previous version.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to access and restore version history for your entire site, individual pages, and global elements (navbar, footer, login modal, signup modal), and find answers to common questions at the end.
Version history options
You can access version history in several ways. The options available depend on whether you want to restore your entire site, a single page, or a global element.
From the top navbar (site-wide or page-specific)
This option is best for reverting changes across multiple pages at once. Just be aware that site-wide version history only includes published versions. Unpublished changes can be reverted at the page level.
To access your full website version history:
- Click the version history icon in the top navbar.
- Choose Site-wide version history or Current page’s version history.
From a page’s 3 dots menu
Each page includes its own version history. This option is best if you need to restore a single page, or if your changes are unpublished.
To access a page’s version history:
- Access your Pages from the left icons menu.
- Click the 3 dots menu next to any page, then select Version history.
From global elements (navbar, footer, login modal, signup modal)
These elements have independent version histories, giving you more granular control.
- Navbar
- Footer
- Login modal
- Signup modal
To access your global elements:
- From the left icons menu, click the Globals icon.
- Select the element you want.
- Click the 3 dots menu, then choose Show version history.
How version history works
When you open version history:
- The center canvas shows a read-only preview of the selected version.
- A banner at the top indicates you’re in version history mode and lets you Exit back to the editor.
- A Read only tag appears for clarity.
- You can toggle between Desktop and Mobile views at the bottom.
Versions are listed chronologically by timestamp, with the current version clearly labeled. Simply scroll down to review earlier versions.
When you find the version you want, select it, confirm the preview looks good, then click the Restore button. Your page or site will immediately revert to that version.
Need to undo a restore?
You can always restore the version just before your last restore. Simply reopen version history and choose the prior timestamp.
